Reader Ultra — Effective Date: July 17, 2026
Reader Ultra is a feed reader that syncs your subscriptions and reading across your devices, and shows you insights into your own reading. To provide those features, we — us.nz — operate a sync service that stores some of your data. We are transparent about what we collect and why. We do not show ads, use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs, or sell your data to anyone. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
To run your Reader Ultra account and sync your reading, we collect and store the following on our servers:
We use the data above only to provide and improve Reader Ultra:
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it. The analytics in Reader Ultra are first-party and are shown only to you — they are not shared with advertisers or data brokers.
Your account data is stored on the us.nz Reader Service. It is partitioned per account and protected with API-key and session authentication, and is transmitted between your devices and our service over encrypted connections. On your device, authentication tokens and your device identity are held securely in the Apple Keychain.
Your app preferences — such as accent colours, fonts, layouts, and reading preferences — sync across your devices through your personal iCloud account using Apple’s iCloud and CloudKit services, separately from the account data described above. This is handled by Apple under your Apple Account and is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. Font sizes are kept per-platform and are not synced, and your account password is never synced through iCloud.
Reader Ultra uses silent background push, delivered through Apple Push Notification service (APNs), to quietly refresh new articles. These are silent notifications that trigger a background refresh; they do not display alerts and are handled by Apple in accordance with Apple’s Privacy Policy.
When you open an article in Full Website view, Reader Ultra loads the page from the publisher’s own website using WebKit, and applies content-blocking rules that block ads and trackers by default. As with any web browsing, the website you visit may receive standard request information (such as your IP address); this is a direct connection between your device and that publisher and is subject to that publisher’s own privacy practices. You can set per-feed ad-block exceptions if you choose.
Reader Ultra does not use advertising networks or third-party analytics SDKs of any kind. We rely on Apple’s iCloud and APNs services (described above) and on the infrastructure that hosts the us.nz Reader Service, used solely to operate the sync service on our behalf. We do not share your personal information with third parties for their own purposes, and we never sell your data.
On your device, per-device retention lets you keep everything or prune articles older than a window you choose — starred items are always kept. You can remove feeds, folders, and starred items at any time, and those changes sync to our service. If you would like us to delete your account and the data associated with it, contact us at apps@us.nz and we will remove it.
Reader Ultra is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13.
If we make any changes to this privacy policy, we will update the effective date above. We will continue to be transparent about what we collect and how it is used.
If you have any questions about this privacy policy or wish to access or delete your data, please contact us at:
